English Mass in Santa Maria degli Angeli

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Pardon of Assisi.
The solemnity marks the day Saint Francis of Assisi’s Portiuncula church was dedicated after Christ called Francis to “rebuild My church”.
In a vision in July of 1216, Jesus and Our Lady presented Saint Francis of Assisi with the “Pardon of Assisi”, which the Church recognizes today.
How to receive the Pardon of Assisi, or the Portiuncula indulgence
- Visit a Catholic Church between noon on Aug. 1 and midnight on Aug. 2, to honor Our Lady of the Angels
- Go to Confession (within 20 days)
- Receive Holy Communion (within 20 days)
- Pray the Apostles Creed, the Our Father, and pray for the Pope’s intentions

The Papal Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi and the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels in Assisi offer Mass in English on Sundays and Solemnities. The Basilica of St. Francis also hosts monthly Masses at the Tomb of St. Francis.
